Abstract : Means of catalytically equilibrating stannosiloxane polymers to increase polymer chain length and of achieving effective curing of phenyl-containing stannosiloxane polymers were investigated. Thus far equilibration procedures employed which resulted in increased molecular weight and bulk viscosity of these polymers also resulted in apparently irreversible cleavage of silicon-oxygen-tin linkages. Curing experiments with phenyl-containing stannosiloxanes were encouraging. Copolymers having silanol functional groups along the chain yielded cured compositions having measurable tensile strength and extensibility upon heating after compounding with elemental sulfur, a silicon hydride, and inert fillers. Phenyl-containing copolymers having vinyl group functionality can be cured by the same procedure but cures are susceptible to air inhibition. (Author)
