Abstract : Chemical additives were tested which could change the nature of water and improve its effectiveness as a fire fighting medium for Class A fires. The results showed the validity and feasibility of the concept of chemical additives to improve the effectiveness of water as a Class A fire extinguisher. Since a large portion of this improvement was shown to be due to viscosity additives, the study of opacifiers was suspended, in order to concentrate efforts and experimental work on the viscosity study.
