Title :   HIGH-POWER FERRIMAGNETIC RESONANCE AT X-BAND IN INDIUM-, GALLIUM-, AND CHROMIUM SUBSTITUTED YTTRIUM IRON GARNETS

Abstract : High-power ferrimagnetic-resonance experiments were performed at 9040 Mc/sec on p lycrystalline garnet materials of the general form 3Y2O3.xM2O3.(5-x)Fe2O3, where M represents the replacement of Fe by nonmagnetic ions. Ga- and Insubstituted materials were investigated for values of x between 0 and 1.0 to study the effects of these substitutions on the onset of nonlinearity. Measurements were made of the decline of the susceptibility for spherical samples in a linearly polrized rf field using rf amplitudes up to 40 oe. These measurements were made on the same samples for which low-power linewidths have been reported. For relatively pure YIG, the spin-wave linewidth delta H sub K was 3.8 oe and independent of the uniform precessional linewidth. In the substituted materials, the effects of the substitutions on the onset of nonlinearity were similar to those reported by other investigators. Data on Cr substitutions are also reported, as well as a discussion of inhomogeneity broadening in these materials. (Author)
