Abstract : The effect of certain process variables on the overlap shear strength of FMS-0057 adhesive (AF-31) bonded specimens was determined. When tested at -67, 75, and 260 F the lap shear strength of AF-31 bonded 2024T-3 alclad aluminum in general increases as the bonding pressure is increased for specimens with bonded overlap size up to 5.0 inches. The highest strengths were obtained at 150 psi bonding pressure and the lowest at 25 psi bonding pressure. When bonded to 2024T-3 alclad aluminum at 45, 100, 150 and 200 psi the shear strength of AF-31 adhesive at all test temperatures generally decreases as the bonded overlap size is increased. The results obtained from specimens bonded at 25 psi were erratic and showed no trend as regards bonded overlap size. When bonded with AF- 31 adhesive at 45 psi and tested at -67 and 260 F, lap shear specimens of 2024T-86 alclad, 2024T-86 unclad, 7075T-6 alclad +++Overlap shear strength of FMS-0057 adhesive (AF-31) bonded specimens as affected by certain process variables. When tested at -67, 75, and 260 F the lap shear strength of AF-31 bonded 2024T-3 alclad Al in general increases as the bonding pressure is increased for specimens with bondeand 7075T-6 unclad aluminum compare favorably with results from similar specimens of 2024T-3 alclad bonded and tested under the same conditions.
