Abstract : Efforts to improve equipment and its application to the reduction of photographic data for geodetic information are described. The problems concerning accurate tracking and identification and film registration are discussed. Three projects were established to derive a simplified technique which would provide accurate positions with available equipment: (1) preparation of tables for proper orientation of a universal type equatorial mounting; (2) adaptation of camera equipment to the telescope mounting, and modification of plateholders; and (3) identification of flare or satellite positions from photographic plates on the celestial sphere. The tests and evaluations of designs and modifications to the equipment are covered, with recommendations for new equipment and re-design features. (Author)
