Abstract : The physiologic regulation of lipogenesis is discussed. The site of regulation in th enzy ic sequenc of fatty acid synt i appears to be the acetyl CoA carboxylase step. The following h ve been excluded as having importance in this regulation: (a) intracellular acetyl CoA levels; (b) the rate of TPNH generation; (c) direct actio s of hor ones. The follo ing mecha isms appear to play rol i h co trol of lipogenesis: (a) co c r tio of ac tyl CoA carboxylase; (b) lipogenic inhibitors; (c) lipog nic timulators; (d) the level of tricarboxylic acid intermediates; ( E) the concentration of CoA; (f) the level of FFA.
