Abstract : The technique discussed involves the transmission of radiant energy through a tube from a heat source (such as a nuclear reactor or a solar concentrator)to some other location in a spacecraft, without an intermediat Carnot cycle limi ed conv rsion process. This technique is particularly useful for applications in which a significant portion of the total energy requirement is in the form of thermal energy. Work discussed includes: The basis of a detailed thermodynamic analysis; Further development of electroforming techniques; The possibility of fabrication methods other than electro-forming; Application studies of guides to laser and thermionic power systems; Hardware testing in which good practical efficiencies have been measured; and Additional factors to be entered in a geometric analysis.
