Abstract : Three types of steels (1020, 4330 and Si-modified 4340 steel), each with four different billet histories, were not extruded. The effects of prior billet histories and of process variables, such as reduction ratio, were studied with the extruded material in both the as-extruded and the e truded-plus-heat-treated conditions. The studies included tensile tests, metallographic examination and the effect of location along the length of the extrusion. (Author)
