Abstract : The in vitro effectiveness of an aqueous stannous fluoride (approximately 20%) prophylaxis paste was determined by measuring the amount of P removed from enamel surfaces both before and after treatment with the paste. Treatment reduced enamel solubility by over 90% in all experimental groups, and there was no loss of effectiveness when the paste was aged over an 8-wk period. The substitution of liquid petrolatum, or silicone and petrolatum in combination, for water did not increase effectiveness. (Author)
