Abstract : A wind-tunnel test program was conducted to determine the configuration of a flow deflector for a cavity in the fuselage of an R5D-2 airplane. It was anticipated that airflow and turbulence in the cavity would create an objectionable condition for an unshielded device to be instlled in the cavity. No index of tolerable turbulence level can be specified prior to actual evaluation of the device and measurement of the turbulence level. A deflector system was recommended to the Naval Research Laboratory, and drawings were forwarded for modification of the aircraft configuration. A performance evaluation of the modified aircraft and of the deflector system prior to installation of the equipment was also recommended. (Author)
