Abstract : A method is described for the quantitative determination of gaseous tissue nitrogen which consists of the homogenization of tissue in water at 37 C. The observed recovery of N from water and oleic acid agrees with the calculated values, so that the present method may be regarded as sufficiently accurate for tissue analysis. The data indicate that splenic and testicular tissues contain more gaseous N than the levels observed in skeletal muscle, brain, and liver. Individual N elimination curves for each tissue indicate that the liver, tetes, and muscle are essentially cleared of N within 2 hr of O2 breathing; whereas, the spleen contains approximately 65% of its original N for 4 hr.
