Abstract : A study of the process of extracting carbonaceous films from sintered porous anodes was completed. Samples of high purity Ta doped wth 100 ppm C were rolled into one mil foil. Similar samples doped with Fe proved difficult to roll into foil.A study of scintillation conditions for leads indicates annealed leads to be superior to unannealed leads. Porosity studies indicate that anode densities greater than 7g/cc grams are easier to coat with MnO2 than lower densities. A method of capaitance control was achieved. The effects of anode and electrolyte temperature, and the generation of gases within the electrolyte are discussed. Control of presinter conditions and proper doping with Ta2O5 are essential to obtaining low leakage current in foam anodes. A significant reduction in leakage is reported. A new method of applying mnO2 was evaluated and results are reported. Foam anodes of 11 - 14 microfarad capacitance are in process. (Author)
