Abstract : The thermal expansion of a cured polymer-filler system may be predicted from the coefficients of thermal expansion of its constituents by a modification of the mixture rule. The mixture rule formula, (Bruggeman, D. G., Ann. Phys. 29:160(1937)) however, fails to take into account particle configuration and the relaxation processes in the polymer matrix, but seems to be adequate for many applications. (Author)
