Abstract : A theoretical analysis of the efficiency of a ferrite loaded biconical antenna is presented. A computer program to evaluate the efficiency is currently under preparation. The problems of mode conversion are discussed in relation to electrically small antennas. An intuitive approach using spherical transmission line theory is used to indicate qualitatively some of the difficulties associated with impedance matching for small antennas. The formulation of a variational expression for the admittance of an isotropic ferrite loaded rectangular waveguide opening out into an infinite ground plane is presented, along with the first part of the approximation procedure. A computer program is presently being prepared to carry out the first order approximation. Experimental ata on the radiation patterns of ferrite loaded ridged cavity slot antennas and spiral antennas are presented. (Author)
