Abstract : The properties of wrought Al base alloys fabricated by extrusion of prealloyed powders were compared with those of extrusions from small billets of conventional wrought plate. Both work haoys, Copper alloys, Zinc alloys, Zirconium alloys, Titanium alloys, Vanadium alloys, Chromium alloys, Iron alloys, Cobalt alloys, Additives, Extrusion, Microstructure, Hardening, Defor mation, Mechanical properties, Heat treatment, Corrosion, Powder alloys. The properties of wrought Al base alloys fabricated by extrusion of prealloyed powders were compared with those of extrusions from small billets of conventional wrought plate. Both work hardening alloys (3003 and 5083) and age hardening alloys (2024 and 7075) were included. In all alloys, the extrusions of prealloyed powders contained a more uniform dispersion of much smaller intermediate phase constituents than those made from conventional material. In alloys 3003 and 5083, by comparison to conventional material, prealloyed powders gave: (1) higher tensile properties in as-extruded and as-coldworked extrusions, (2) increased resistance to recrystallization, and (3) higher work strengthening rates during cold working. In alloys 2024 and 7075, tensile properties of unrecrystallized heat treated alloy powder extrusions were equivalent (2024) or inferior (7075) to those of unrecrystallized extrusions of plate. The powder extrusions were found to be more resistant to recrystalization than conventional material. An exploratory survey of alloy compositions was conducted in the Al-Mn, Al-Mg and Al-Zn-Mg-Cu systems. 9author)
