Abstract : ON THE BASIS OF Van der Waals'equation we show that the maxima in the specific heat at constant pressure (infinite below the critical point and finite above) lie on one continuous line through the critical point. Experimental data fit the curve, above as well as below the critical point, although Van der Waals' equation is known to be not entirely correct. The calculation is based on the rules of E HRENFEST FOR HIGHER ORDER TRANSITIONS AND DOES NOT MAKE USE OF THE CALORIC PROPERTIES OF THE SUBSTANCE. (Author)
