Abstract : The first phase of the study consists of a session for the purpose of training observers in coding skills, and for developing their sensitivity to conference behavior. This session consists of a discussion on objectives and methodology, then a practice session in observing and coding a group discussion. The second session is a multiple-group session in which subjects are divided into five-man groups. Each group is assigned two or more observer-coders, and each group then engages in a ''leaderless discussion'' of a human relations case problem. The behavior of each participant in each group is coded by observers. At the conclusion of the multiplegroup sessions, each participant is asked to rate the contribution of each of the members of his discussion group on a questionnaire form. The form is attached as an appendix to this report. (Author)
