Abstract : THE UNIVERSAL FUZE SETTER, WM31E1 IS A T WRENCH TYPE DEVICE FOR SETTING MECHANICAL TIME AND VT FUZES. IT IS CONSIDERED UNIVERSAL IN THAT THE INTERCHANGEABLE FUZE SOCKETS PERMIT THE USE OF THE SETTER WITH VARIOUS TYPES OF FUZES. THE FUZE SETTER CONTAINS TWO SMALL LIGHT BULBS POWERED BY TWO STANDARD SIZE 1-1/2 VOLT FLASH LIGHT BATTERIES. THE BATTERIES ARE ASSEMBLED INSIDE ONE HANDLE OF THE FUZE SETTER. THE TWO LIGHTS ILLUMINATE, THROUGH A RED FILTER, THE GRADUATION NUMBERS OF THE FUZE. THEREFORE, FUZE SETTINGS MAY BE MADE AT NIGHT AND UNDER OTHER CONDITIONS OF DARKNESS. THE FUZE SETTER WAS EXPOSED TO DESERT SUMMER ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS FROM 1 JULY TO 31 AUGUST 1962. DURING THIS PERIOD THE AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE EXCEEDED 105 F FOR 59 OF THE 62 DAYS, A MAXIMUM AMBIENT TEMPERATURE OF 115 F WAS RECORDED, AND A MAXIMUM SURFACE TEMPERATURE OF 156.1 F WAS RECORDED
