Abstract : The stability, resolution and electron beam current of the electron spectrometer in use have been increased. This has been accomplished by heating the entrance and exit slits of the velocity analyzer used for velocity selection before scattering and by substituting a short slit (width is half the diameter of the pinhole) for the exit pinhole and entrance slit of the velocity analyzer. Excitation potentials and the relative intensities of peaks obtained by electron impact are discussed briefly and compared with optical data. Electron impact spectra of helium, nitrogen, nitric oxide, and carbon dioxide are included. (Author)
