Abstract : The technique of determining the radiation pattern from the leaky wave distribution has been applied to two semi-infinite different geometrical configurations, one in which the sheath is terminated while the metal plane continues, and the other where the metal conductor terminates in a right angle bend while the plasma sheath continues and also fills the quarter-space vacated by the metal. The patterns are computed from an integration over an assumed aperture distribution consisting of only the unperturbed leaky waves in the plane of the discontinuity. This distribution is approximate in that other (weaker) wave contributions are omitted, and edge effects due to the discontinuity are neglected. It is found that the major peak of the radiation patterns thus obtained is not appreciably affected by the finiteness. Some endfire radiation is obtained now which was absent for the infinite case, and certain other characteristic differences occur. The above statements are illustrated by the radiation patterns for several cases, and a technique is outlined for qualitatively predicting the radiation features. (Author)
