Abstract : The rationale for the operation of the ferrimagnetic parametric amplifier in the magnetodynamic mode of operation is presented. Cylindrical geometry of the dielectric resonator is chosen to allow loading of pump energies at calculable mode resonance frequencies. Possible modes for parametric excitation are given, and selection rules for resonator mode coupling to Walker modes are derived. Resonance conditions for dielectric resonator modes are derived: the secular equation is derived for azimuthal eigenvalues of zero and one, and graphical solutions given. Mode selection schema are discussed with respect to noise figure. Experimental data is shown for magnetodynamic HE sub 112 and TE sub 013 modes, and variation of inferred Q and splitting factor with sample dimension reported. Results of initial tuning methods for signal and pump modes are given. (Author)
