Abstract : The purpose of this contract was to conduct a research study and test program to determine the feasibility of using reinforced plastics as primary structural materials in Army aircraft. The program was divided into two phases, the first being essentially the design study and the second the test phase. Study was directed at structure and component design requirements in current and future Army aircraft with a view toward replacing existing manufacturing techniques with reinforced plastics in those areas in which a definite advantage seems apparent.
