Abstract : The primary purpose of the Johnie Boy experiment was to determine the effect of slight burial on crater production and to study the crater formed and the ground shock/motions associated with the Johnie Boy event. The objective of Johnie Boy Project 1.2 was to obtain horizontal and vertical acceleration measurements in a nonhomogeneous alluvial deposit. This report presents the results obtained from horizontally and vertically oriented accelerometers and horizontal velocity gages at depths of 1 and 10 feet, and distances ranging from 150 to 500 feet from ground zero. An additional station was located 300 feet from ground zero, but offset 90 degrees from the main gage line in order to obtain an appreciation of asymmetric propagation tendencies. Gage performance was in general satisfactory; only 7 of 32 gages were lost as a direct result of the electromagnetic (EM) pulse. (Author)
