Abstract : The chemistry of the N-P-F, N-F and O-F compounds were studied with and without U.V. irradiation. The following reactions were found to take place: (1) 75% of the NOF reacted with O3 at 195 K. in 3 hours to produce NO2 and O2; (2) In 4 hours all the NOF reacted with O2F2 at 195 K. to produce NO2F and NF3O; (3) When irradiated with U.V. at O C., N2F4 reacts with Cl2 to produce NF2Cl. its impurity F2NNO also reacts to produce NF2Cl and NOCl; (4) When irradiated with U.V. at 77K., a few percent of the O2F2 and CClF3 and O2F2 and CCl2F2 react to produce CF4 and O3F2; (5) U.V. irradiation of N2F4 and O2F2 at 77 K. produces NF3 and O3F2; (6) N2F2 and O2F2 react at 130 K. to produce NF3 and O2; but at 77 K., no reaction occurred. If, however, the N2F2 and O2F2 is irradiated with U.V. at 77 K., NF3 and O3F2 are formed; (7) When solidified dilute solutions of N2F2 and N2F4 in CClF3 are irradiated with U.V. at 77K., free radicals are formed different than the NF2 radical reported by Colburn.(Author)
