Abstract : Results of a program to measure ground motion near the Easy and George Shots of Operation Greenhouse are reported. Measurements, as a function of time, were made of the following motion components: horizontal-radial particle acceleration, vertical particle acceleration, and horizontal-radial particle displacement (limited number of cases). The distances at which these measurements were made ranged from 360 to 2,100 yd. Three types of gauges were employed in this operation: a movable anode vacuum-tube-type accelerometer, a magnetic-tape self-recording accelerometer, and a self-recording free-piston displacement gauge. Outputs of the anode vacuum-type gauges were transmitted by cable to a blast hut hut for recording, while one of the self-recording gauges was used as a back-up gauge. Integration of the acceleration records has been performed, yielding particle velocities and displacements at a correspondingly lower degree of accuracy than unintegrated values because of errors inherent in the mechanical integraph and personal error in integrating.
