Abstract : The parallel development and demonstration of two high-temperature-rise combustors applicable to advanced variable-cycle turbojet engines was carried out for hydrogen and hydrocarbon fuels. Target objectives were met or exceeded. An analytical model of hydrogen combustors was developed for use in optimizing the interrelated geometric and aerothermodynamic parameters. Multiple correlation techniques were used with experimental data to produce empirical correlations for hydrocarbon combustors of the type developed, which employ high primary airflow and high concentration of fuel injectors. Basic technology was developed in anticipation of problems in advanced combustors related to light-off, fuel injection and dynamic combustion stability as well as providing for the measurement and evaluation of high exit temperature combustors.
