Abstract : Different species of insects take up the same element to different degrees. The uptake of radioisotopes varies with the developmental phase of the insect. Mature insects remove large amounts of radioisotopes from the water and thus acquire considerable importance with respect to the migration of radioactive sub stances. The uptake of radioactive elements depends on time. Radioisotope concentrations in aquatic insects depends on the level of ac tivity of the water. Radioisotope uptake is influenced by the temperature of the environ ment. The effect of EDTA is subordinate to general physical and chemical laws connected with the mineral metabolism of living organisms.
