Abstract : Studies and experiments on the crystallization of Nb3Sn have been done on the basis of the follow ing information: Nb3Sn is stable at 900 C and above; appreciable amounts of Nb can be dissolved in Sn at 1200 C; nucleation and growth are the result of the continuous supersaturation at a particular location in a saturated solution. Experimental results clearly indicate that crystallization of Nb3Sn will occur from a saturated solution of niobium in tin; however, due to excessive nucleation only polycrystalline clusters of Nb3Sn crystals were achieved. Moreled studies and experimental investigation are required to obtain the optimum conditions for single crystal growth. (Author)
