Abstract : Laser beam scattering experiments were continued. Scattering from various neutral gases was meas ured as a preliminary study of the scattering by the high-density plasma. Angular dependence of the intensity of the scattered light and the differential cross section of the different neutral gas molecules were determined. A review of some of the optical measurements made on the high-density plasma in previous quarters is given. Stark broadening of the H beta hydrogen spectral line was used to determine electron densities on the axis of the one-turn coil in the hydrogen theta pinch plasma. The growth and decay of the electron density are shown. Studies of the plasma ejected from the theta pinch were continued and preliminary results are given. (Author)
