Abstract : Progress is reported on the development of metal laminates with high vibration damping for use in the fairwater and superstructure plating of submarines. Twenty-one laminates were manufactured and evaluated for damping at 74 F. They were also evaluated for mechanical impedance in one degree of freedom over the temperature range of 35 to 130 F. The frequency range was 20 to 2500 cps. All contained a net thickness of 3/8 in. steel. Interlayers were a Neoprene ILA vulcanizate, a Silastic compound, and an epoxy/nylon tape. Interlayer thicknesses ranged from 5 to 40 mils. (Author)
