Abstract : Several ways of calculating the radiation impedance of a radiator of sound in the form of a rigid piston of arbitrary shape are discussed. The impedance is calculated from: (1) the near field pressure; (2) the far field pressure; (3) an integral transform of a Green's function; (4) pressure in a particular direction in the far field; and (5) the Kramers-Kronig (or dispersion) relations.
