Abstract : Several methods are considered of synthesizing the aperture distribution for a specified far-field polar diagram. The majority of the solutions are given in the form of a finite number of linear, algebraic simultaneous equations and are therefor suitable for evaluation by digital computers. The treatment is divided into four groups: eigenvalue solution, discrete sources, continuous sources for the polar diagram expressed as an explicit function of angle and continuous sources for the polar diagram expressed as an explicit function of the sine of the angle. The apparent physical significance of the analysis in mentioned where pertinent. (Author)
