Abstract : The acoustical and dynamic effects resulting from an increase in the number of stiffeners in a cylindrical shell are described. These effects were determined experimentally using a 1/7 scale model approximating the engine room section of a nuclear submarine hull. Tests were conducted in both air and water environment. A new approach is utilized to determine the radiated acoustic power from near-field measurements. (Author)
