Abstract : An alternate interpretation is given to the polarized neutron diffraction data of Menzinger and Paoletti on fcc cobalt. Several objections are given to their interpretation of a large difference in the mean square amplitude of thermal vibration of the spin density compared to the nucleus. The data is alternately interpreted on the basis of a temperature dependence of the radial distrubution of spin density with total radial charge density unchanged. The relative occupations of e sub g and t sub 2g orbitals for fcc cobalt are also derived from the data. (Author)
