Abstract : This paper describes work to simulate the mammalian cardiovascular system on an electronic analog computer. As an initial attempt, only the systemic circulation is considered. In the simulation, the heart is assumed to be a flow rather than pressure generator, and the systemic vascular system is assumed to be a three-element lumped impedance. The flow-rate function is based on known physiological data, and is used to drive the load (impedance). By adjusting the elements of the load, the analog pressure response is made to resemble pressure shapes found in physiological data. (Author)
