Abstract : This study of the hydrodynamics of rapidly accelerated flow was undertaken to provide basic information which could be applied in analyzing artillery recoil systems. The approach utilized in this study is two-fold: to collect data on the resistance and inertial effects associated with large unidirectional accelerations through control sections, and to incorporate into the analysis such fluid properties as inertia, compressibility, and viscosity.
