Abstract : The process of grinding down of large eddies into smaller ones in the presence of a magnetic field in a turbulent flow is calculated. Expressions for the mean square vorticity, kinetic energy and magnetic energy correct to third power of time have been calculated. These results have been investigated numerically. Curves have been drawn to show the behaviour of mean square vorticity, kinetic energy, magnetic energy and their ratios with time at different Reynolds numbers and for different values of the initial magnetic energy. It is found that in the initial period of the magnetohydrodynamic turbulence, there is a transfer of energy from kinetic to magnetic. The presence of the magnetic field produces a faster decrease in the mean square vorticity as compared to the case when the magnetic field is weak or absent. (Author)
