Abstract : A LaCoste Romberg and a Worden geodetic gravimeter were used to connect the Potsdam international gravity base to absolute gravity sites at Washington, D.C., Princeton, N.J., Teddington, England and Paris, France with an indirect connection to the BadHarzburg base used in lieu of Potsdam since World War II. The BadHarzburg value was found to be 0.89 mgal high, and the Potsdam datum relative to the more modern absolute gravity values was found to be +13.6 =1.4 mgal high. There is however an apparent system atic difference of 2.8 mgals between the new European and American absolute measurements, and if this is allowed for as a function of gravity field strength the Potsdam datum is +12.1 =0.6 mgal high.
