Abstract : Coupled mode equiations are presented for coupling of magnetostatic modes to dielectric cavity resonances. The coupled mode equations predict a fundamental difference between the types of coupling possible when a magnetic bias field is applied parallel and perpendicular to the axis of a ferriteloaded dielectric cylinder. Evidence is presented for the appearance of two distinct families of magnetodynamic resonances near the high field boundary of Walker mode spectrum. Enhancement of pumping by means of fine wire mounted in waveguide is analyzed and calculated field intensities compared with experimental data. With the wire adjacent to a 0.149 in. dia Y1G sphere, a pump power threshold minimum for oscillation of 40.4 watts, and for amplification of 31 watts is reported. The threshold for the onset of instabilities is compared with that for oscillation; the two thresholds converge for a value of Hdc near to (omega sub p/28) + 2 pi M/3), corresponding to pumping at the high field boundary of the Walker spectrum.
