Abstract : Eight paints were coated on each of three materials--aluminum, brass, and steel. Diffuse reflectance was determined with a Beckman DK-2A spectrophotometer for six replicates of each combination of paint and material. Measurements covered the wavelength region from 350 to 2,650 millimicrons. Variation in reflectance among the six replicates of each combination of paint and material decreased as additional coats of paint were applied through the third coat of paint. Exposure to weathering for eight weeks tended to decrease reflectance in the visible and near infrared wavelengths and to increase reflectance in the longer wavelengths near 2,400 millimicrons.
