Abstract : This work is concerned with the development of an approximate set of explicit guidance equations which include the first order effects of the earth's oblateness. Two methods of analysis are used to solve the perturbation differential equations of motion. First, an exact solution is found by using the Poincare perturbation technique. Then, a less complex set of explicit guidance equations are derived utilizing two simplifying assumptions. This second method considerably reduces the oblateness-induced errors incurred by using the spherical earth correlated velocity vector. The increase in computation is not excessive and the required equations may be readily mechanized in presently available airborne computers. (Author)
