Abstract : Frictions in the NATO coalition should surprise no one. Alliance have habitually been short-lived and fraught with dissension -- as a matter of fact, NATO has already established some sort of record for integration and longevity. Still, NATO partners, true to form, have wrangled continually among themselves and disagreed with the recommendations of the corporate organization. The latest schism, however, introduces a new species of discord: a rivalry between corporate agencies within the alliance machinery itself. According to observers, a feeling of resentment-possibly even animosity-has grown up between the military and political elements of the central institution. (Author)
