Abstract : The activation energy, the activation volume, and the frequency factor for the plastic deformation of niobium at low temperatures were determined from the effect of temperature and strain rate on the yield and flow stresses. The present results are in accord with, and give support to, the idea that thermally activated overcoming of the Peierls-Nabarro stress is rate-controlling during the deformation of the BCC metals at low temperatures.
