Abstract : Evidence is presented for the occurrence of reactions which liberate ions from surfaces. Ions thus ejected from a wall in an atmosphere of active nitrogen include NO+, N+, N2+, N3+, and N4+. Surface chemionization reactions of this kind could be important in the production of excess ionization in rocket exhausts. A model is given for the propagation of electromagnetic waves through gas-particle plasmas. A refined approach was adopted for theoretical study of electron distributions about particles emitting thermionic electrons. Some preliminary results are given. (Author)
