Abstract : The dependence of auroral zone satellite scintillation on geomagnetic activity is discussed. It is shown that the scintillation phenomenon depends both on the time of observation and on magnetic activity, so that the scintillation index S has to be considered as a function of two variables: the geomagnetic K-index and the time of observation. The shape of this function of two variables may be explained by assuming diurnal changes in the scintillation rate spectrum. (Author)
