Abstract : Measurements of base pressure and axial distributions of density and static temperature were obtained for several laminar hypersonic wake flows. Experiments were performed at Mach 12 for Reynolds numbers based on model length of 7 x 10 to the 5th power and 6 x 10 to the 4th power and at Mach 18 for a Reynolds number of 5 x 10 to the 4th power. The pressure results indicate that the base pressure of a cone is a sensitive function of Reynolds number. The temperature measurements support the inclusion in theoretical analyses of the expansion distortion of the boundary layer profile at the trailing corner of a cone. The temperature measurements also show that the maximum on-axis wake static temperatures appear in the re-circulation region. (Author)
