Abstract : This final report covers a 12-month program of theoretical and experimental effort leading to the development of Light Modulation Recording Techniques for (Near) Real-Time Display. A complete theoretical analysis is presented of the interference-modulation technique, and all performance iquations are derived. Results of the program have shown that the technique is theoretically capable of providing a 20-Mc/sec modulation bandwidth with a modulation factor approaching 100 percent. This report describes and analyzes the laboratory breadboard model developed under the program; experimental tests performed on the model verified the theory and demonstrated that the techniques developed are feasible. Several experimentally obtained oscillograms and graphs are shown of modulator response, optical-transmission efficiency, modulation factor, and scanner performance. (Author)
