Abstract : The theory of reflection of electromagnetic waves from a moving sinusoidal disturbance, on both rough and still water, is presented in a simple approximate form. It is shown that the detection of such a disturbance is, in principle, a practical possibility. Some of the requirements of such a detection system are briefly discussed. The basis of the simplified theory is discussed in detail, and new experimental results are presented to demonstrate the validity of the approach used. (Author)
