Abstract : It was previously reported that a considerable amount of gelatin in thrombocyte was bound to protein. The purpose of this study was to extend the mechanism of glycogen binding to other protein and polysaccharides. Of the proteins tested, only gelatins and those serum fractions rich in gamma-globulin exhibited glycogenbinding capacities. Other serum protein fractions released considerable amounts of protein into the TCA-soluble fractions, but were not capable of binding glycogen. These results imply that the glycogen-binding capacity of TCA-soluble protein is dependent on the properties of the proteins released into the TCA-soluble fraction. It is suggested to continue these investigations and identify the sites in the proteins responsible for the binding of polysaccharides. (Author)
