Abstract : Observations of the temporal variations of electron (E > 1.6 MeV) intensities near the geomagnetic equator in the outer radiation zone with Explorer XIV (2 October 1962 to 8 August 1963) strongly suggest that replenishment of energetic electrons in the outer radiation zone during the several weeks following a period of geomagnetic activity proceeds by an inward radial motion of energetic electrons from L > 5.
